The Bilingual Bandwagon
By Dorothy Creamer, Editor

According to the 2000 census there were approximately 38 million people who used the Spanish language as their first language. As of July 1, 2008, the Hispanic population of the United States was 46.9 million or 15% of the nation's total population. This makes those of Hispanic origin the nation's largest ethnic or race minority. By the 2010 census it is estimated that there will be about 50 million native Spanish speakers in the U.S.

With the demographic trend continuing on this path, it is only natural and necessary for vendors to hear the holas and get on the bilingual bandwagon. Greetings that boast Spanish and English verses are becoming more popular as mixed-race families become more of the norm.

Viva Greetings (404/314-4147) offers eye-catching colorful and vivid note cards. Packaged in a clear box the 4" x 5.5" cards are blank and are made from glossy cardstock. They come with a white envelope and a set of eight retails for $12.50. For more information, visit www.vivagreetings.net.
